While the White House wants to cut funding to the country’s 39-buoy tsunami warning system, Sen. Daniel Inouye is working on ways to keep tsunami preparedness at the fore.

Senator Inouye is developing a bill to re-authorize the Tsunami Warning and Education Act,” a spokesman for Inouye told DC808 in an email on Tuesday.

The 2005 act was aimed at strengthening tsunami warning and mitigation measures, as well as improving education and coordination among governments, and modernizing the network of wave-measuring buoys.
