The state’s proposal to give land in Kakaako valued at $200 million to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs to settle past-due ceded-land payments gets its first hearing at the Capitol today — and it’s a double-header.

Two House committees will meet at 9:15 a.m. in Conference Room 329 while two Senate committees will meet at 2:45 p.m. in Conference Room 224 to hear the respective House and Senate version of the Abercrombie administration’s deal.

This is the easiest step for the bills; if approved, they next face tougher hurdles in the judiciary and money committees.

Kakaako parcels to be given by the state to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs under a proposed deal.
