I wasn’t able to get out to Kapolei last night for the anti-rail panel moderated by Panos Prevedouros, and it looks like most of my media colleagues didn’t make the journey either.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser, KITV and KHON are silent on the event, at least as far as their websites are concerned. Hawaii News Now has the only story I’ve been able to find so far, and that piece focuses more on the pro-rail protests outside than on the content of the anti-rail discussion inside.

That can’t be what organizers had in mind when they invited well-known folks from the mainland to talk about the ills of transit. And rail proponents must be feeling their oats today.

The anti-rail group is convening again today at 12:30 p.m. at Mission Memorial, so people who were dissuaded by a rush-hour drive last night have another opportunity. I’ll poke my head in to see what’s going on. Here’s a schedule:

12:30 to 2:15 PM – CHALLENGES

  • Panos Prevedouros: Moderator
  • John Charles: Transit Oriented Development Costs and Benefits
  • Panos Prevedouros: Agriculture, Energy and Resilience Challenges
  • Wendell Cox: Paying the Bills: Prioritizing Honolulu’s Fiscal Challenges

2:30 to 4:00 PM – SOLUTIONS

  • Randall Roth: Moderator
  • Adrian Moore: HOT Lanes for Corridor Congestion
  • Peter Vincent: Infrastructure Development and Oahu’s Aesthetic Appeal
  • Randal O’Toole: Urban Sprawl and Community Development
  • Randall Roth: Closing Remarks
