Hawaii lawmakers said no to shark fin soup last year.

They banned the trade of the fins that are often used in expensive Chinese dishes.

New York could be following suit, according to the New York Times.

The trend is picking up steam nationally:

California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington are enacting similar bans that were passed last year, while Florida, Illinois, Maryland and Virginia have legislation pending.
