Former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann has a 45-point lead in the 2nd Congressional District race, according to a new poll commissioned by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and Hawaii News Now.
The group Ward Research, Inc. surveyed 336 Democratic primary voters by telephone between Jan. 26 and Feb. 5. The margin of error is 5.3 percentage points.
A recent poll by the Hannemann campaign also showed him with a strong lead — 42 points in that case. The former mayor’s best-known challenger, Honolulu City Council member Tulsi Gabbard, has far less name recognition than Hannemann but has shown fundraising momentum in recent months.
