Former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann is leading his closest competitor by 42 points according to a new poll commissioned by his campaign for Congress. 

The QMark poll shows Hannemann with a 57 percent lead, and City Council member Tulsi Gabbard with 15 percent of voters’ support. 

QMark said it polled 417 registered voters in the 2nd Congressional District between Jan. 26 and Jan. 29 — with 176 participants on Oahu; 103 on the Big Island; 94 in Maui County; and 44 on Kauai.  

One in four participants reported having an “unfavorable” opinion of Hannemann, while more than half said they had a favorable opinion. Percentages for Gabbard were lower on both counts: 26 percent responded favorably to her, with 12 percent responding unfavorably. 

For better or worse, Hannemann dominated when it comes to name recognition. Just 2 percent of participants said they had never heard of him compared with 39 percent who said they had never heard of Gabbard. 

About two third of participants were reached on landlines, with the rest reached on cell phones. The margin of error is +/- 4.90 percent.
