I’m here in Kapolei today primarily to see what happens with the so-called “purple spot” of light industrial zoning in Lualualei Valley.

The amount of acreage at stake is small — this isn’t Hoopili or Koa Ridge. But, as one opponent said, it’s a “strategically placed domino” that could dictate the future of the area for decades.

Dozens of community members have come down to testify on the Waianae Sustainable Communities Plan. Many have spoken about the benefits of local agriculture and the value of keeping the country country.

I’ll have more later, particularly when the Honolulu City Council begins its deliberations on proposed amendments.
