Charles Collins of Pahoa and Michael Dane Gillespie of Honolulu — two unknowns — have pulled election papers to run for the U.S. Senate, bringing to five the total number of candidates to have done so. That list does not yet include declared candidates Linda Lingle, Ed Case, John Carroll and Mazie Hirono, but they’ve got until June 5 to file.

Meanwhile, Tulsi Gabbard and Miles Shiratori (of Kaneohe; he’s run for office before, to no avail) bring to three the number of candidates who have pulled papers for for the 2nd Congressional District. Mufi Hannemann, Bob Marx, Esther Kiaaina and Rafael Del Castillo are running but have not yet filed.

Colleen Hanabusa and Charles Djou have not yet filed for the 1st Congressional District, either. She’s in D.C. a lot, he’s in Afghanistan.
