The House Education Committee today will hold its first hearing on three bills dealing with education for children from birth to age 5.
A growing body of evidence shows that early experiences have a big impact on children’s learning behaviors for life.
The proposals:
- House Bill 2519 would appropriate money (amount to be determined) to the Department of Education to support early childhood education.
- House Bill 2728 would allow taxpayers to “check off” a specified amount of their income tax refund to go to an early learning trust fund.
- House Bill 1683 would get rid of the state’s junior kindergarten program offered to children who turn 5 after Aug. 1.
