Tulsi Gabbard was a state legislator in her early 20s and, now at 30, is a Honolulu City Council member running for Congress. So she’s still a “young person,” and a civic organization is honoring her as an “outstanding” one at that.
From her congressional campaign:
“Tulsi’s lifelong commitment to community service and her determination to help move Hawaii forward have made her among the first wave in a new generation of leadership,” said Yvette Lee, President of the Hawaii Jaycees. “We’re proud to recognize Tulsi’s efforts.”
This year’s “Outstanding Young Person” winners were selected by a panel of three independent judges. Hawaii’s three recipients will be submitted to the U.S. Jaycee organization for consideration for their 10 Outstanding Young Persons of the Year. Previous national winners have included Bill Clinton and Al Gore. Last year’s winners from Hawaii included professional baseball player Shane Victorino, Tofi Mika Jr. and Galileo Tan II.
