Ben Cayetano has formed what he’s calling a “Truth Squad” to dig into city claims as he runs for mayor. The squad has eight former cabinet members from four past city administrations. They are:

• Geminiano “Toy” Arre and Sam Callejo (Frank Fasi Administration)
• Ronald Lim, Patrick McCain, Malcolm Tom (Jeremy Harris Administration)
• Rodney Haraga, Eric Takamura (Mufi Hannemann Administration)
• Stanley Shiraki (Eileen Anderson Administration)

A press release from Cayetano’s campaign explains the squad’s objective: “to separate truth from falsehood, clear up misinformation and show the public how the city’s reckless spending of taxpayer’s money has affected its ability to deliver other more important services to the public.”

The squad will release weekly fact checks. Will those generate Civil Beat Fact Checks of their own?
