When DC808 is not at the U.S. Capitol or running around Washington for various reporting assignments, we can often be found working in a building that’s part of the Newseum (appropriately enough, it’s a museum all about journalism).

But you won’t find us there this evening: The building will be on lockdown for several hours while President Barack Obama attends a business roundtable event. Seeing Obama around town isn’t an unusual occurrence: On Sunday, we watched the president’s motorcade zip by — as part of a long and noisy convoy that included countless motorcycles and an ambulance — after his appearance at the AIPAC conference

If it’s not one thing, it’s another. The building manager notified DC808 that on Thursday, there will be a “live, 12-foot giraffe” standing outside of the Newseum. We’ll believe it when we see it — and when we see it, we’ll be sure to snap some photos.

The first motorcycle in the presidential motorcade turns right from Sixth Street onto Pennsylvania Avenue Tuesday night.

Look familiar? The Newseum featured The Garden Island in its display of newspaper front pages on Tuesday.
