Tomorrow is the deadline for a bill to be heard by the House Finance Committee that would give graduate assistants unionization rights.
So far, the proposal hasn’t been put on the committee’s docket, even though it cleared two other committees without a problem. My sources tell me this issue comes up every few years like clockwork, and that it will likely never make it into law because there’s no political incentive for lawmakers to grant this group bargaining rights.
