House Bill 2569 was original written as a measure to make clarifications to Hawaii’s civil unions law, which went into effect Jan. 1. The bill was submitted by the Abercrombie administration.

As currently drafted, however, the bill would allow religious organizations and groups affiliated with them to denyservices, accommodations, advantages, facilities, goods, or privileges” that are “related to the solemnization of a civil union.”

Two Senate committees are scheduled to hear HB 2569 Tuesday morning (March 20).
