Familiar Names Pull Papers to Run for Office

Now that reapportionment is over and new district maps are final, candidates are already pulling papers to run. The Office of Elections candidate report as of Thursday (March 15) shows a lot of familiar names considering office — incumbents as well as former elected officials. There are already some match ups, too.

In the Hawaii Senate:

Bob Herkes vs. Gary Safarik, Michelle Kidani vs. Mike Magaoay, Lorraine Inouye vs. Kelly Greenwell; and Josh Green, Clarence Nishihara and Scott Nishimoto. 

In the Hawaii House:

Joey Bertram, Barbara Marumoto, Lei Ahu Isa, Karl Rhoads, Aaron Johanson, Mark Takai, Marilyn Lee, Jo Jordan and Cynthia Thielen.

Marumoto, one of 14 incumbents impacted by reapportionment, is considering whether to run in House District 18 or 19. Same goes for Nishimoto, a House rep who is weighing running in Senate District 19 or 21.
