Two federal agencies are doling out nearly $2.9 million to nationwide projects that preserve and interpret the U.S. sites where more than 120,000 Japanese Americans were imprisoned during World War II.

dc808 reports:

Hawaii is getting about $65,000 for a project run by the Japanese Cultural Center in Honolulu.

“The internment sites serve as poignant reminders for us — and for the generations to come — that we must always be vigilant in upholding civil liberties for all,” said Interior Secretary Ken Salazar in a statement on Thursday.

The grant money comes from the Department of the Interior and the National Park Service.
