Many of Hawaii’s federal candidates are looking to their opponents for leadership on whether to make public their tax returns. 

Members of Congress are potentially in the position to shape tax policy, and Civil Beat asked candidates to share three years of tax returns so the public could determine how any potential policy changes might affect   would-be representatives and senators.

So far, not one of the 11 candidates Civil Beat contacted has provided her or his returns. Sens. Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka also declined to make public their tax returns. Akaka is retiring this year, and Inouye isn’t up for re-election until 2016.
