A growing number of states are struggling with whether and how to regulate electronic cigarettes as the non-traditional smokes gain in popularity. This according to a Wall Street Journal story (subscription required) that explores the national debate over public-health concerns.
Some states, like Hawaii, are moving to ban the sale of e-cigarettes to minors. Our lawmakers are advancing legislation to that effect but have stopped short of taxing electronic smokes. Other states are also banning use of the devices in public areas and looking at stopping Internet sales, the Journal reports.
