Former Gov. Linda Lingle‘s campaign for U.S. Senate says Lingle is “not involved” in regular operations or decision making by Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) leadership.

Lingle is a board member with the group, and DC808 asked Lingle’s campaign about her involvement in the RJC fundraising strategy after Politico reported on Tuesday that the group is spending more than $6 million to help GOP candidates get elected in 2012.

Politico identified the RJC as part of a network of Republican groups that GOP strategist Karl Rove convened to be part of his “Fight Club,” also known as the Weaver Terrace Group, which is credited with helping Republican candidates win many of the midterm races in 2010.

Politico gave the group the “Fight Club” nickname after obtaining an email that was sent to Weaver Terrace members, and contained a reference to the movie of the same name. Recipients of the email were reminded not to talk publicly about their 2012 strategy (and not to reveal who — other than themselves — is involved).

A spokesman for Lingle told DC808 that she “does not know the Weaver Terrace Group,” but national Democrats have jumped on the possible link as a way to illustrate what they say is a disconnect between Lingle’s campaign message of bipartisanship and close ties with strong Republican interests.

Though it provided an email response, the Lingle campaign has not yet responded to DC808’s requests to interview the former governor.
