Maui has been suffering from an islandwide power outage since about 1:30 p.m. And now county officials are asking people to cut down on water consumption, too.

According to a story in the Maui News, power was out in parts of Lahaina, Napili, Mahinahina, Waiehu, Kahului, Makawao, Pukalani, Kula and Spreckelsville, as well as parts of Haiku and stretching to Hana, she said.

The cause of the outage was unknown and officials didn’t know how long power would be out.

The water department couldn’t pump water to maintain adequate levels in storage tanks so county officials are asking people to use water only for health and safety purposes at least until tomorrow.
