Despite signals from the mayor and the City Council that raises for leaders at Honolulu Hale aren’t a good idea right now, the Salary Commission is still looking at that possibility.
KHON covered the commission meeting, and reports that members “voted to recommend raises of 5.5 percent for the police chief and his deputies, 4 percent for the fire chief and his deputy, and 3 percent for city council members, and most directors and department heads and their deputies.”
“It’s been four years since anybody has even been considered for a raise and we just feel like after that period of time these modest raises are appropriate,” said Salary Commission Chairman Jim Donovan.
