By an 8-to-1 vote, the 2011 Reapportionment Commission voted Thursday (Feb. 29) to hold off on finalizing new political boundaries until a technical committee can study alternative maps submitted by House dissident Sylvia Luke.

The only no vote was by Republican member Dylan Nonaka, who rejected Luke’s argument that the commission favored a particular political faction in the state House.

The commission will reconvene Friday afternoon (March 2) to hear what the technical committee thinks of Luke’s maps.

Chief Elections Officer Scott Nago expressed concern that there is only 164 days until election.
