The National Journal published a state-by-state breakdown of places where Democrats are leading in federal races, but Republicans are well positioned to challenge them.

One example is — you guessed it — Hawaii’s U.S. Senate race. Rep. Mazie Hirono has plenty of momentum and support from national Democrats, but the Journal points out that former Gov. Linda Lingle is doing “about as well as a Hawaii Republican can do” in the campaign thus far.

The question that remains: How does Hirono challenger and former Congressman Ed Case fit into the mix? He’s struggled to keep pace with Hirono’s and Lingle’s fundraising efforts, but he’s a well known and vocal campaigner.
