
It’s looking like a real possibility. Southwest Airlines today celebrated the arrival of its first 737-800 planes. The aircraft are large enough to fly to Hawaii.

The plane holds 175 passengers, 38 more than the biggest plane now in Southwest’s fleet.
“If you’re going to fly a route, you need to make money. We’re all in the business to make money. The lower costs and the 175 seats help you do that,” said Southwest chief commercial officer Bob Jordan. “Routes like Hawaii, like the Caribbean are very competitive. It’s just another tool to be able to enter competitively…”
