Civil Beat today published a letter from resident H. Doug Matsuoka to City Council member Romy Cachola asking for an accounting of the costs of enforcing what the administration is calling the “stored property ordinance.”
It’s a ban on keeping personal belongings on public space for more than 24 hours, and it’s been used repeatedly to remove items from the Occupy Honolulu encampment downtown.
Matsuoka, who’s part of the encampment, says the raids have been costly in terms of resources, and also that they’re adding to Honolulu’s homeless problem.
