You may have read on Civil Beat today how the state government ranks in the bottom half for transparency about government spending. But where Hawaii is failing, Honolulu is thriving.

The City and County of Honolulu earned an A- grade from the Sunshine Review for its work in transparency, and was honored as part of the transparency-focused nonprofit’s “2012 Sunny Awards.”

“I know we still have a lot more to go, but we’re on the right road,” Information Technology Deputy Director Forest Frizzell told me in an email. “We have some updates to the CAN-DO site coming soon that are going to make it even easier for Citizens to find spend information.”
