The Hawaii Legislature‘s debate over land use law exemptions is really heating up. From Sophie Cocke in the Land Blog:

Gov. Neil Abercrombie has called them ‘apocalyptic’ and ‘naysayers,’ but local environmental groups are still raising alarm about legislation that would streamline development.

One of the bills on their radar is Senate Bill 2927, sponsored by Sen. Donovan Dela Cruz, which would create “exceptional planning projects” that can sidestep planning and zoning requirements.

It will be heard by the Finance Committee on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the State Capitol, room 308.

Donna Wong, of Hawaii’s Thousand Friends, has sent out an email urging people to testify against the bill. She writes:

This side-stepping of logical and coordinated planning and zoning will curtail public input and create high density nodes within otherwise orderly planned and developed communities.
