Design and Construction Director Lori Kahikina and another city worker traveled to Germany last month to witness firsthand the manufacture of pipe Honolulu is buying for its aging sewer system.

Hawaii Reporter has the story. Basically, a company hired to build pipe for the city went bankrupt and closed operations suddenly, so Honolulu sent over a team to make sure everything’s moving in the right direction. It cost taxpayers $6,300.
