The Honolulu Star-Advertiser is slashing the rate it charges to publish legal notices in an effort to keep the lucrative business. That’s according to this story in the Hawaii Reporter.

The story says the S-A publisher sent a letter to lawmakers Friday promising to cut the rate from $90 per column inch to $45 pci. Lawmakers are mulling over a bill that would allow other publications to get in on the business of publishing non-judicial foreclosure notices.

There’s much more to the story, including the entry into the market of a new paper called the Island Sun Weekly that wants in on the foreclosure notices business. One twist: the weekly apparently has some connection to a company that carries out foreclosures.
