“I believe in public service, and I have tried to apply that at both the university and as a journalist,” Takayama told Civil Beat. “I haven’t decided yet, but I am giving it serious thought.”
Takayama, director of community and government affairs in the UH Manoa chancellor‘s office, served for 13 years as press secretary to U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye in D.C. and was spokesman for the state’s Department of Public Safety and for then-Lt. Gov. Ben Cayetano.
Two other Democrats have also pulled papers for the race.
