Earlier this week, HART revealed that 148 of 278 jobs created so far were held by local people. But they had blanks in the table for Kiewit, the contractor hired to build the first 10 miles of the fixed guideway.

HART sent the Honolulu City Council an updated local job count Friday. Now, 301 of 508 jobs are held by Hawaii residents or returning residents — about 60 percent. Here’s the new table:

The rail financial plan projects an average of 10,000 jobs created during construction years. About 4,000 are “direct” jobs that will presumably be identifiable, while the rest are indirect from the economic impact of the construction and are based on a formula. We’ll never be able to count those.
