Hawaii could get as much as $372 million from the federal government for military construction. That news comes on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that the Defense Department is moving 9,000 Marines out of Okinawa — and bringing 2,700 of them to Hawaii.

dc808 has the full story:

The House Armed Services Committee’s Subcommittee on Readiness authorised $372 million in federal money for military construction in Hawaii, Rep. Colleen Hanabusa announced on Friday.

Hanabusa, who serves on the subcommittee, said in a statement that the funding reinforces the idea the United States is increasingly focused on the Pacific, and that  ”Hawaii will continue to serve as our nation’s primary home-soil presence in that theatre.”

Here’s where some of the funding is set to go:

  • Marine Corps Base Hawaii – $97 million
  • Schofield Barracks –$96 million
  • Wheeler Army Airfield – $85 million
  • Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam – $31 million
  • Pohakuloa Training Area– $29 million
  • Army National Guard Kapolei – $28 million
