Some good news today from Hawaii’s fledgling new symphony. They’re gearing up for a Pops Season!

The newly-formed Hawaii Symphony made its debut last month at the Blaisdell Concert Hall. There were many familiar faces in the orchestra — veterans of the Honolulu Symphony, which was the oldest symphony west of the Rocky Mountains until it went bankrupt in 2010.

The current Hawaii Symphony is a revival of the tradition, led by Hawaii businesspeople.

The Symphony’s Pops Season consists of six one-night-only concerts at Blaisdell Concert Hall and The Waikiki Shell. Featured artists include Hawaiian music luminaries such as Amy Hanaiali’i, Na Leo Pilimehana, Henry Kapono and Raiatea, as well as pop stars Kenny Loggins, Jimmy Borges and Mary Wilson, one of the founding member of The Supremes.
