Mazie Hirono‘s campaign for the U.S. Senate raised just over $1 million in the January-March period, bringing her total take to $2.3 million.

The campaign says the money came from more than 7,000 donors, most of them first-time contributors to the Democrat’s bid.

Press quote from Hirono:

I have always said that this campaign is of, by, and for the people, and our first quarter fundraising results truly show that.

No word yet from how well Hirono’s primary primary opponent, Ed Case, did in the latest fundraising cycle.
