This just in: Oahu joins the other Hawaiian islands with a ban on single-use bags. A Civil Beat poll this week found that people were actually split on whether any restrictions should be put on plastic bags.

Inside Honolulu reports:

The Honolulu City Council has just passed, by a vote of 7-1, a full ban on single-use plastic checkout bags in retail stores.

The crowd assembled gave a loud ovation after the vote.

If the bill is signed by Mayor Peter Carlisle, the ban would take effect in July 2015.
