DC808 reports:
During his 2010 re-election campaign, Sen. Daniel Inouye praised embattled General Services Administration official Jeff Neely for his “leadership,” Roll Call reports.
That moment was captured in an Inouye campaign ad that featured Neely, who was later reprimanded for appearing in the ad, according to Roll Call.
Here’s the statement Inouye’s spokesman, Peter Boylan, provided to both DC808 and Roll Call: “Prior to the recent press reports, Senator Inouye and his staff were unaware of the disappointing allegations that Jeff Neely and his staff wasted and misused taxpayer funds. Neither Senator Inouye nor his staff knew Mr. Neely in anything other than a professional capacity. Senator Inouye and his staff worked with the GSA Region 9 office only on issues relevant to GSA’s mission.”
