Sen. Daniel Inouye has shelled out nearly $900,000 in this election cycle to help Democrats keep control of the U.S. Senate, Roll Call reports. The Capitol Hill newspaper also points out one race that Inouye is staying out of: He won’t campaign against Republican Sen. Dick Lugar of Indiana.
“Inouye has a track record of putting personal relationships before strict partisan considerations,” Roll Call reports. One of the best known examples was Inouye’s close friendship with Alaska Republican Ted Stevens, who died in 2010. Inouye still refers to him as his “brother.”
