A spokesman for Sen. Daniel Inouye said there’s no truth to an anonymously-sourced KHON report that the senator was hospitalized in Hawaii this weekend.

The link to the story has since been removed from KHON’s website, but DC808  caught this screenshot from a mobile phone on Sunday afternoon:

Not only is the senator “completely healthy,” spokesman Peter Boylan said in an email, but Inouye wasn’t even in Hawaii this weekend. He was in Los Angeles Saturday night, and is set to return to Washington, D.C.,  on Sunday.

Boylan told DC808 in a text message that no one from KHON contacted Inouye’s office before to confirm whether the senator had actually been hospitalized. KHON did not immediately respond to an email inquiry about the story on Sunday evening.

UPDATE 7:57 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2012: In a follow up email, Boylan told DC808 that KHON attempted to contact Inouye’s office at 9:42 p.m., but did not wait for a response about whether the senator had actually been hospitalized before making it their top story in the 10 p.m. news.

KHON2 did not confirm their story, which they attribute to two anonymous sources, with the Senator’s office prior to going on air,” Boylan said.
