The Honolulu City Council until yesterday had seven subcommittees to do the lion’s share of the work on every bill. Now, there are eight.

Chair Ernie Martin yesterday created a Committee on Legislative Matters. Martin, who generally sits out committee meetings, is the chair of the new committee, and all eight of his colleagues are voting members.

It will meet Thursdays at 2:30 p.m., according to a memo Martin sent to council members.
