A new government report revises estimates — upward — regarding how much of Japan’s Pacific coast could be inundated by a tsunami if another large earthquake were to create a tidal wave.

New estimates put the size of a wave at 112 feet. Earlier estimates had predicted 66 feet. Last March’s quake sparked a wave of 45 feet high.

The report was released Saturday and is detailed in this Associated Press report.

Another new government report shows a strong quake, even in the area of 7 on the Richter scale, in the Tokyo Bay region could cause problems for the Tokyo-Yokohama metro area, home to more than 33 million people.

That news is in the same AP story.
