Before they were opponents for the Honolulu City Council District 1 seat, Tom Berg and Kym Pine were allies.

Berg sent out a reminder last night with a video showing Pine vouching for Berg as he ran for the Hawaii House of Representatives in 2010.

Here’s the transcript of the remarks, which appear to have been edited down:

When I first thought of hiring Tom, everyone said, ‘What are you doing, he worked for Democrats.’ And I said, ‘You know, people elected me to have the best in my office, and Tom was the best at everything.’ Because of Tom, we have these roads. It was Tom that said many years ago that was yelling and screaming at government, saying, ‘Don’t you dare put those homes. I don’t see the road plans. Where’s the road plans? I don’t see the funding for the roads. Where’s the funding for the road?’ And most politicians would just look the other way because we would get donations from different developers and things like that, but it was Tom Berg that was fighting for you. And so I’m so proud that he’s on my staff, because he makes me look good.
