Senate Clerk Carol Taniguchi explained in a memo this week the rationale for the doors:
These doors prevent air conditioning loss from internal doors that are left open (e komo mai). These doors obtained all necessary permits, are ADA compliant, and in fact save energy.
But she also released the results of a DAGS survey of Capitol denizens that said the AC had not improved, nor had safety levels. They also weren’t bothered by noise levels before the doors were installed.
The doors will be removed Saturday and given to a nonprofit group.
