“Given that we are satisfied with their performance, we see no valid reason to cancel this contract,” he said.
In their opening statements, Budget Chair Ann Kobayashi and Romy Cachola said the City Council intends to cut funding for the project from the mayor’s Fiscal Year 2013 budget.
Steinberger said a failure to fund the project would leave the city in “default.” Steinberger said the EPA is “very concerned” about the lack of a backup option for Sand Island, which is the state’s largest treatment plant.
