Legislators say they aren’t targeting anyone specific with Senate Bill 2751, which creates a petty misdemeanor offense for disrespecting of a house of the Legislature.

But it sure seems to have been inspired by Mitch Kahle, the First Amendment activist who has objected to House and Senate invocations.

The measure passed the Senate Tuesday (April 10), with Mike Gabbard voting “no” and Les Ihara and Pohai Ryan voting “yes” with reservations.
