For example, about 25 percent of income tax goes toward the military and less than 4 percent supports education and job training. But the White House tool lets you see the exact dollar amounts you’re shelling out.

It also gives estimates by bracket if you don’t have your tax info on hand. For example, a married couple with an income of $80,000 and two children pays about $9,100 in federal taxes. That total includes more than $1,000 for defense, more than $1,000 for health care and less than $100 for natural resources, energy and the environment.
