A statement from the campaign:
I’ve been out in the community a lot over the past few months, listening to people’s concerns and talking to voters about what their next mayor needs to do to make our city better. This includes concerns about traffic, rail, better roads, and other critical city issues. I’ve felt the surge in support for rail and I’m pleased that more voters are responding favorably to my candidacy. I’m encouraged by the support and I’m committed to working even harder for the people of Honolulu.
It is not surprising that Cayetano’s support is fading. Voters are realizing that he is a one-issue candidate without a solution. Peter’s numbers should be higher as an incumbent, but the problem is he does not get out from behind his desk and lead. I’m closing in on each of them because voters are looking for a mayor who will listen to people and is hands-on when it comes to managing Honolulu. I’m confident that our campaign will continue to grow momentum as the differences between the three candidates become more clear.
Cha Thompson, campaign chair for Peter Carlisle, told me a few minutes ago that while she’s “happy” to see that the mayor has caught up to Ben Cayetano, “it’s totally up to the voters so let’s see what happens there.”
