The first television ad — as far as I know — of the 2012 mayoral campaign is up. One of my Civil Beat colleagues caught it on TV, and now the Cayetano campaign has posted it on YouTube:

It’s an interesting first spot, because the candidate doesn’t speak at all, and doesn’t even show up on camera until two-thirds of the way through the 30-second ad. Vicky Cayetano is alone for the first 20 seconds, with her husband Ben walking in at the end to put a hand her shoulder and look (glare?) at the audience without even hinting at a smile.

Here’s the transcript:

Aloha, I’m Vicky Cayetano. Ben and I are very concerned about the future of our beautiful city and the legacy we will leave our children. When Ben was governor, he was a decisive and honest leader who was willing to do the right thing, no matter what the political costs. Ben stood up for you as governor, and he’ll stand up for you as your mayor. Our city needs a strong and experienced leader more than ever. On Aug. 11 please, vote for Ben. Mahalo.
