The view from Haleakala National Park and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park isn’t clear enough, according to the EPA.

Two years ago, federal officials determined that Hawaii needed to address environmental pollution contributing to the haze. Now, the EPA has proposed its own plan, which includes capping emissions form oil-fired electric generating units on the Big Island.

Meetings are being held on Maui and the Big Island this week to discuss the proposal.

From Maui Now:

The Maui meeting includes an open house at 5:30 p.m. and a public hearing from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 31 at the UH Maui College, Pilina multipurpose room.

A separate meeting will be held in Hilo on Friday, June 1, 2012.  Open house for the Hilo meeting begins at 4:30 p.m., and the public hearing runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Waiakea High School Cafeteria.
