Ahn made her decision to seal the records Thursday after attorneys for Deedy and some local media outlets argued last week that the documents should be public. Prosecutors, on the other hand, pushed to keep the documents secret so as to not taint a potential jury pool or ruin their shot at a fair trial.
Deedy, who is charged with second degree murder and a weapons charge, was in Honolulu as part of a security detail for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference.
