In response to the attack Thursday (May 17) by the Democratic Party of Hawaii regarding Linda Lingle’s evasiveness on gay marriage, Lenny Klompus, Lingle’s deputy campaign manager and communications director, says this:

Chuck Freedman once again stuck by his same old, tired drum beat in his incessant attacks on Governor Linda Lingle. His comments not only reflect poorly on the Democrat Party, but show how out of touch he is with current events facing Hawaii’s families. In Chuck’s frantic attempt to cover up the fact that their candidates have no record to stand on, he along with national Party operatives continue to distract the public from the real issues of the day.  

Unlike Chuck, our campaign is focused on revitalizing our economy so small businesses can have the confidence to grow and expand, on stimulating job growth so our young people can be optimistic about their future, and on developing sustainable solutions for Social Security and Medicare to ensure promises are kept to our kupuna. 

We understand that Governor Linda Lingle — a dedicated public servant with 10 years on the Maui County Council, eight years as Maui’s Mayor and eight years as Hawaii’s Governor — unnerves the partisan establishment as they desperately cling to the status quo. Her experience is unmatched in developing bipartisan solutions that always put “people first.”
